We did it! We actually, finally did it. We made an Easy Backcountry Beer and Cheddar Soup!

Well, let’s be clear. We have done this many times but we usually drank too much of the beer to remember how we did it and we never wrote it down. But today we can say we have finally made our best version and remembered how to do it! Enjoy our Backcountry Beer and Cheddar Soup

Backcountry Beer & Cheddar Soup

Doesn’t look that appetizing now.. but just wait.

We made this over the weekend and now we are sharing it with you. It’s extremely easy to make, empty the contents into a pot, add beer and water,  heat it up and enjoy. It doesn’t get any better than Beer and Cheddar soup while camping – that is easy to make!

We’re not big fans of carrying cans into the woods. We are definitely not big fans of the soup or stews that are usually contained inside those cans. Sorry Chunk Soup, but it’s true. 

We made this soup to elevate your camping meal experience and reduce the amount of cans and weight you’re bringing with you.

We believe in eating like kings in the wilderness. Your out there working hard to travel or even just to survive. You’ve earned a damn good meal don’t you think? 

This recipe will make enough soup for 2. If you need more – do the math. We can’t do everything for you.

What you will need to make our Backcountry Beer and Cheddar Soup.

  1. ½ Cup Chopped Red Onion
  2. ½ Chopped Celery
  3. 1 Clove of Garlic (Diced)
  4. 5 Tsp of Hot sauce (We used Frank’s Red Hot)
  5. ½ Tsp of Salt
  6. 1 Tsp Dijon Mustard
  7. 2 Cubes of Chicken Stock
  8. 1/3 Cup of flour
  9. 4 Tsp of Powered Milk
  10. 4 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese (or more if you like!)
  11. 3 Tsp of Worcestershire sauce (Pronounced: Who’s-Your-Sister-Sauce)
  12. 1 tsp Mustard Powder
  13. 1 Beer and a cup or two of water (Only when you are ready to cook). We used a simple Coors Light beer, but you can use your favorite beer.

Guidelines: (Not instructions. ManCamping doesn’t allow instructions)

  1. Put all the ingredients listed above (Except the beer and water) into a Ziploc bag. It doesn’t matter the order, just put them all in there.
  2. Seal it up. Well. You don’t want this opening up in your backpack. Consider a double bag of you’re concerned.
  3. When you are ready to cook this baby up, dump the Ziploc bag into a pot. Well, dump the contents into a pot. The bag is not part of the recipe.
  4. Pour in your favorite beer and added a cup of water on top. You. An add more beer or water to get your desired consistency.
  5. Heat this baby up, continuously stirring until all the cheese has melted. Usually about 20 mins.
  6. Eat it, enjoy and let us know how it was.

On a cooler fall day, let this backcountry beer and cheddar soup simmer over your campfire. It’s hardy enough to keep a burn in your belly for hours and you can’t really beat a soup like this in the woods. Can you?

You can add just about any other veggies you want to this recipe and it will work fantastically. Or bacon, you can add bacon to just about anything right?

Just make sure you pack out all the cans of beer that you brought in with you. We don’t want to litter our wilderness, just because you wanted a brew. Pack it out lads.

  • That sounds AH-MAZ-ING! I wonder if some of the sauces can be dehydrated to reduce unfortunate messes if the bag breaks?
