Mancamping’s Pull-a-part Beer Bannock Recipe

Many of us are staying home, helping to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it’s a great time to cook up a storm. Our buddy John came up with a Bannock competition. A great idea!!! (Surprisngly coming from John, but also not surprising because that man can COOK!)

The idea was to cook up your own bannock any way you like and then through down against each other. The showdown was 3 days later, high noon on Saturday (queue wild west shootout music).

Here’s what we came up with – We made this at home but you can make this in the woods as well. Pull-A-Part Beer Bannock – Topped with Parm and Cheddar – ManCamping Recipe

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2.5 cups of flour
  • 1 tbsp of Sugar, Salt and Baking Powder
  • 1/2 (ish) a tall boy of beer
  • 1/3 cup of butter
  • A pinch of oregano and basil
  • 2 slices of bacon
  • 2 cloves of garlic (or garlic powder)
  • Tbsp of Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/4 cup of cheddar

Here’s what to do:

  • Cook up your bacon and set aside (leave enough of the bacon grease to keep the skillet greased)
  • Mix the Flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and beer together and kneed until you have your dough.
    • Add the beer slowly so that you don’t use to much. You just want enough to make it stick together
  • Roll the dough into balls and place around the skillet. If you have too many, you can stack on top!
  • Mince the garlic cloves and mix with the basil and oregano.
  • Melt the butter, with the garlic/basil/oregano -pour on top of the dough balls.
  • Add a few pinches of parm and Cheddar onto

You can make this in the oven (at 400° for 20 mins) or you can make on the grill or fire in the skillet – Cook until the outside of the pull-a-part bannock is firm to the touch.

Drink whatever beers if left while you wait for this to cook. (You’ll probably need a second beer though

The last and final step is crucial. The last step is to grab a piece, pull away from the rest and Eat! Decide if you need a nap afterwards.

Try our pull-a-part bannock and let us know what you think!

As always… We won this Bannock-Off and have officially been crown the Pope of Bannock town, or the High Bannock Baliff of the world. Whichever you prefer. ?

  • You forgot to add the bacon. A crucial step. Other than that, it looks good. What is it like one serving?

Got somethin' to say?
